If you use your microwave to heat leftovers or make the occasional popcorn or TV dinners, then you really are missing out on a whole world of possible uses of a microwave oven.
It is perhaps one of the busiest helpers in the kitchen and has so much more to offer than the basic service of heating things up.
If you have had a busy, exhausting day, if you’re running short on time or if you’re simply too lazy to make yourself a proper meal, then following are some very easy, yet undeniably delicious quick-fix, no fuss recipes that will satiate your desire to eat a proper meal without really putting in much effort to make it.
French Toast in a Mug:
You read that right. A French toast, can, in fact, be made inside a mug and here’s how:
Put sliced cubes of bread – dipped in egg – in a bowl with ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, 2 tablespoon milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla and mix. Transfer the mixture into a microwave safe mug and microwave for 1.5 minutes or until the egg seems fully cooked and you’re done!
Another breakfast shocker is an omelet in a mug.
Combine an egg (or two) with 2 tablespoon cheddar cheese, 1 tablespoon diced bell pepper with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the sides of the mug with cooking oil and pour the omelet mixture into it.
Microwave for 1.5 minutes or until the egg is done and there you have a hassle free omelet.
Don’t have a baking oven but are still craving baked potatoes?
This one’s specially for all the hostel folks to give them a feel of home baked potatoes in a microwave:
Scrub one large potato thoroughly and prick it many times with a fork. Place it in the microwave on high for about 5 minutes. Turn the side over and do it for an additional 5.
Once it is soft, cut it in half, lengthwise, and mash the inside using a fork. Season with salt and pepper and coat with butter and 2 tablespoons of cheese. Pop it back into the microwave for another 1 minute and you’re good to go.
Chocolate Chip Cookie:
Who doesn’t love a nice, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie?
Mix 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 tablespoon brown sugar and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract in a bowl. Once these are done, add ¼ cup flour, ¼ teaspoon baking powder and 3 pinches of salt in the same mug and mix them all up.
Once a doughy consistency is reached, add 1 tablespoon of chocolate chips and stir. Cook it in the microwave until it starts to look like a cookie.
Why stop at a chocolate chip cookie when you can make the next best desert on the list in a microwave too!
To make this cheesecake, mix 2 ounces of softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of sour cream, 1 egg, ½ teaspoon lemon juice, ¼ teaspoon vanilla and 2-4 tablespoon sugar together in a microwave safe mug.
Cook on high for about 1.5 minutes while stirring every 30 seconds to ensure all the ingredients get incorporate. Once done, refrigerate until it needs to be served.
Mac ’n’ Cheese:
No microwave mug recipe list is complete without the classic mac ‘n’ cheese.
Mix ½ cup elbow macaroni, ½ cup water and salt in a mug and microwave for 2-3 minutes. Stir and add ½ cup milk, ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese and pepper. Stir again and microwave for an additional 30 seconds.
Sprinkle over some fresh chives or oregano and you have a delicious mug of mac ‘n’ cheese to enjoy.
Mix ¼ cup white chocolate chips with 3 tablespoons milk and microwave for 40 seconds. Whisk the two together until all the white chocolate has melted.
Then add 4 tablespoon flour, ¼ teaspoon baking powder and ½ tablespoon vegetable oil to form a smooth batter. Add small chunks of Oreo Cookies into the batter and cook for around 1 to 2 minutes on high.
Let the cake to cool and top it up with whipped cream.
