FaceApp Declared Source of Artificial Intelligence by Cyber Crime Expert

From not being able to move to having a receding hairline, people have always had their issues with old age. A new application, however, has beaten all these issues as people are clicking pictures to see how they would look like in the future.

Millions of people have downloaded the app to see what they would look like in the future, without realising that they are compromising on their security on the internet. Known as FaceApp, the Russian application has become a trend that is being followed by many to get a sneak peek into their future.

The platform makes use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras to ascertain how a person will look like in their

old age. The application is being widely lauded by users for its efficiency in detailing the pictures.

While talking to Mirror Now, cyber law expert Pavan Duggal said, “It’s like they are telling you, we are cutting your hands, putting them on the table and you are not going to question our authority. First of all, your data is not secure and there is no cybersecurity. If you are still okay with this, please proceed with our service.”

Duggal said, “By using this app, you are giving them (FaceApp) the license to use your data for the next 99 years. You don’t know how the data is being saved. You are giving your data to the company to share, monetise, exploit it in any manner. If you are a person who wants to ensure his cyber safety, then you should not use this app.”

Ritesh Bhatia, another cybercrime expert said, “We need to understand what is really happening in the cybercrime world. Artificial Intelligence is now taking over. Gone are the days of internet and programming. All such data is fodder for AI. They need all this data to know how I look when I smile and react.”

He added, “I am not talking about morphing, morphing just involves one picture. Today, when you type a person’s name, there is some information about him on the internet. A time will come when CCTV cameras will identify faces and display information about the person.”

Bhatia said, “This is not like Instagram where your picture has other elements. Here (FaceApp), you are providing a well-lit picture of just your face. The image goes on the server since AI cannot be done on the mobile phone as of now. The final image is processed and then sent to your phone, which means that your original picture is being stored with the company.”
